Creativity at Ainsworth

We here at Ainsworth AfterCare encourage creativity in our students by providing constant projects and imagination provocations whenever possible. And even though we design these themes and projects with high expectations, we never fail to wonder at the amazing results produced by your kids.

For instance, in the recent Red Ball, AfterCare students, led by Cindy, came together with artists David Prouty and X.K. Austin to create a beautiful piece of art known as “Tejedor de Suenos” or “Dreamweaver.” The result was beyond anyone’s expectations, as were the other Red Ball projects created by students, classrooms, and parents around Ainsworth. Below are some pictures of our AfterCare friends hard at work on the Red Ball project. We also invite you to watch a video of children sharing their dreams as our project is transformed. Check out the video here.

Another example of the creativity exploding from the kids are the recent fuzzy projects led by Adriana. Many of you have likely seen the fuzzy pens created on Wednesday. Check out the area behind reception and the lounge for more examples of unique ways in which the fuzzies, hot commodities anyway, have been turned into fun art.

Sometimes, the creativity simply flows from the kids unfettered. For example, below, two of our students created a beautiful pyramid of blocks without any prompt from a teacher.

Then, a few weeks back, an impromptu break dance competition broke out in the auditorium, resulting in lots of cheers, laughs, and crazy moves.

We also know that some of our students keep on creating, even when they are out of school. Two of our students, Leo and Soren, have taken this idea to a new level, creating a food blog called KidChowPDX – The Food Kids Really Want. In one word, it is delicious. Get up to date on all the tastiest morsels you can find around Portland, from food carts to 5-courses, straight from the hungry mouths of two of Ainsworth’s finest.

We are proud of the creative accomplishments of all of our students here at AfterCare, so if you have the time, remember to look around the cafeteria and the lounge, as we will often display many artistic accomplishments.
